AMPLIFICATION THROUGH GEOMETRY, NOT FORCE.
Volume 1 · Logan Richardson · 2026
AMPLIFICATION THROUGH GEOMETRY, NOT FORCE. examines the saxophone from an unusual position: the intersection of the player, repairer, designer, and listener.
Drawing from decades of experience with the instrument, Logan Richardson moves inside its physical architecture—tone holes, pads, resonators, keywork, bore, mouthpiece, reed, air and the player’s body—to investigate how seemingly small mechanical and geometric relationships influence response, resonance and the experience of sound.
The work deliberately separates acoustic observation from metaphor. What can be measured belongs to one conversation. What can be experienced, imagined and translated into artistic practice belongs to another. The two may inform each other without being confused for one another.
At the center is a simple proposition:
AMPLIFICATION THROUGH GEOMETRY, NOT FORCE.
The instrument should not have to be fought. The player, mechanism and acoustic system can instead be understood as relationships—each capable of being examined, refined and reconsidered.
